Called up from the Reserves in August 1914, he immediately proceeded to the Western Front, where he took an important part in the retreat from MONS and in the battles of the MARNE, the AISNE, LA BASSEE, YPRES (1), and NEUVE CHAPELLE. He laid down his life for King and Country in the last named sector on April 1st 1915.
